Yeah, put me squarely in the camp that isn't quite a Radiohead fanboy, but still doesn't understand how anyone could ever call them "formulaic". Jason Mraz is formulaic. The aforementioned Meshuggah is definitely formulaic. Subjectively not liking Radiohead is one thing, and I totally get that. But formulaic? They're probably the most successfully experimental mainstream band in modern history. I'm not saying Kid A is where the rabbit hole ends for "experimental" electronic rock. Obviously it's tame stuff compared to a lot of other stuff out there. But it's pretty far from some pedestrian mall-rock gateway drug either, and to insinuate that what they've done is in any way predictable, formula-driven, or just some cynical faux-edgy posturing for "teenage girls".................you gotta admit, that's not even a little bit fair. Borderline trolling. There's a lot of bands that I f*cking can't stand, but will still give credit where its due if they are earnestly making art in a respectable way. I'd rather build a time machine and let GG Allin retroactively shit on my hair than listen to an entire Rush album back to front, but I'm not gonna accuse them of being formulaic hacks. They just suck to me. I think people who love Joe Satriani albums are sick in the head and should probably be the first up against the wall, even before pedophiles, but I'm still not going to put them in the same category as some "metalcore" band that has an album selling exclusively on vinyl at hot topic. That's just mean.
