compacted snow can get real slippery it just when it is on the road it can have has a bunch of dirt in it that keeps it from being slippery, but if you compact snow off road somewhere, it'll probably just be snow, and be more like a luge pipe. if it's not compacted, more like chewed up slush, a small amount of that can be bad (which would require a few inches of snow) as for thickness, i generally get concerned about driving if more than 3 inches have come down in the last few hours. below that? meh. this morning there was about 6 inches of snow that fell in a few hours (i started at the tail end, there was 4-5 on the ground when i set out), was a bit blizzardy out there. not a single road i drove on was plowed, and we all went to work
and not talking on the ball snowplows, just some repurposed trucks at the ready to spread grit. they had days to prepare and know it was coming. also i dont think denver even plows because it's always 60 the next day, the assholes
