Hmmm a big budget Tokusatsu movie - be still my beating heart

I really want to like that movie but...

CGI looks dated (perhaps just the quality of the trailer), acting looks independence day bad, and the robots themselves....meehhhhhhh. Why are they bipedal and mimicking our form? Power Rangers anyone?

I could forgive you Prometheus, yes your character clearly had no plausible motivations, but It was Ridley Scott.

Soooo... Transformers/Iron Man vs Independence day. Don't people get bored of this stuff being rehashed over and over ? I know all movies tend to be like other movies to some extent, but there just seems to be a total glut of these type of movies right now. Why not wait until people won't compare everything in it to transformers and Iron Man. Why not rehash a movie that's not been done in a while.

IDK, watching movies these days seems like eating at a restaurant where every dish involves cheese until everyone hates cheese so then they make every dish from parsnip, until everyone hates parsnip.. ad nauseum.
