Showboat posted an item about online voting for Time Magazine being manipulated, and that got me wonder who this year deserves such recognition. Using Time Magazines criteria, that being the person who has the most influence, but not specifically good influence should be selected.
Thinking about it - No one really seems to stand out, about all I have is Bashar al-Assad, the current president of Syria.... So I am willing to hear some more or less informed opinions

Mitt Romney.
In all seriousness, his losing influenced the direction of the US, and the world in a profound way. You can also tack on shitty little misc influences like extra exposure to Mormon, etc

Wen Jiabao
Has presided over the Chinese economy as the Central Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China has worked to shift the economy from being so export dependent. Has elevated tensions over islands also laid claim to by Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea (I think). Has increased clout massively within Africa (But not just this year).
Angela Merkel
The situation in Europe makes this choice very apparent. I should not have to explain anything.
John Boehner
Eric Cantor
Barack Obama
Harry Reid
All tied to US politics. Fiscal cliff. The relection. The GOP loss. Etc.
Benjamin Netanyahu
Gaza. 'Nuff said.
