So just recently I bought a B&N Nook and its rekindled my love for reading. I really enjoy just about every period of US history and I've been eager to read some good books. It really can vary, but particularly I'd be interested in Civil War and Revolutionary periods. The books, I prefer to be more historical than opinionated and generally focused on politics or war. I really am unsure of what is good and I hate wasting money so I wondering if you guys have read anything in particular that is really good in terms of factual information from our nations past time. Any recommendations would be great, thanks.

The Killer Angels is excellent in its own right. Gods and Generals is good but not quite at that level (it's a prequel of sorts to the killer angels). i never read the last full measure, which takes place after gettysburg
gods and generals, as a film, is perhaps the most boring thing ive ever watched. apparently the directors cut of that film is nearly 5hrs long. god

a long time ago i also read bruce catton's books -- the Army of the Potomac trilogy. it starts with Mr.Lincoln's Army, goes on with Glory Road, and ends with the best, his pulitzer prize winning A Stillness at Appomattox. it's been 20 years since i read them so i have a vague recollection of these, but i did like the last one quite a bit if i recall
