So if potatoes don't make vodka, vodka, what does?

Are potatoes a requirement? I mean, whiskey can be made from any number of things...pretty sure quite a lot of vodka is made from grain...

Russian Vodka is usually made from grain..
Polish Vodka, where Vodka was originally made BTW, is 'usually' made from potatoes.

Vodka is just alcohol and water with very small traces of the base left over. That's why "top-shelf" vodkas actually have less of a taste than cheap vodka.
This seems appetizing.
