Starting from top left being Row 1 / Column 1:

I think you can also do this with a 90* rotation. Yeah, you can - I just tried it.

I've seen this before. Trick is to place each queen as if it is covering another like its a knight.

It was my second try. First one was a fail.
Actually, I started doing the number thing, and the pattern emerged. I was able to do it halfway by just identifying the pattern in the numbers.
