What I'm looking to do is compile a good set of books in the house to provide a well rounded educational supplement to school. I want to include books that focus on critical thinking, but also compelling books on subjects and philosophies that aren't necessarily ones that I personally hold.

So, for those who would like to participate, tell me what books float your intellectual boat? What reads have expanded your way of thinking and challenged your viewpoints? Don't worry about age ranges, political correctness, or any sort of censoring.

When I had an impressionable mind in middle school, I fell hard for sci-fi. In particular, the book Hyperion by Dan Simmons. It's intended for adults but I loved the concepts he explored.

Dont bother with books concepts, critical thinking. The absolute greatest gift you can give your children is curiosity. Do that and everything else takes care of itself

yeah i read stranger in a strange land and dune in seventh grade and it really changed the path of development my thinking took. also got me hooked on reading about science and stuff.
