Netflix' new show Hemlock Grove.

Verdict: Atrocious.



One doughnut hole out of five.

Why? Horrible acting. Like, this show shouldn't exist bad if Netflix is trying to use these to attract new viewers. Also, it feels like Twin Peak's half retarded cousin. At least Twin Peaks had a cool story to it (even if it moved slower than a tortoise)...this one is a bit like Twilight (I guess? Never seen) and a soap opera. I mean this literally because the characters in this show look so effing retarded at times I wonder if these concepts were lifted from one. They are just so weird.

And while I enjoy a good sex scene like any other these all seem inspired not by glorifying the lust and thus tying into an overarching theme but...just to be in the damn show. So that they can go "Sex scene!" And with all of those elements I have no idea who this show is meant for? Retarded college men? Teenagers sure as hell can't watch it. I might be too optimistic here but I'm going to assume most 25+ old people will see this show for the crap it is...so...yeah...

I like it. Nothing like Twilight at all. The audience who will enjoy this are people who like gothic horror and mysteries in a contemporary setting. The first several episodes are basically character development so if you are expecting an action flick or something you will probably find it boring.

That aside, I will check the show out, being as I didn't know it existed till now.

Well I watched the entire season and enjoyed it. Romance had little to do with most of the storyline.It was far more brutally violent than teen fare like Twilight and had a far more more complex storyline. Although many questions were answered by the last couple of episodes I am anticipating finding out what is exactly is going on with Ouroboros next season.

And I liked the neo-gothic aesthetic that is evoked by the music and languid pacing.

Languid eh? It was more nails on a chalkboard pacing for me.

Although I didn't read any of your conversation, I just wanted to say this is the best titled thread ever.

It's an exact representation of the quality of the material found in the show.
