And now she's planning to remove her ovaries too. And she doesnt even have cancer. Has she gone insane? Doesnt she know that she's gonna die of something sooner or later?

It's a tough choice to make obviously, but she had an 87% chance of getting breast cancer, which is now below 5%. So she went from it being nearly certain, to it being very unlikely.

If I was in a similar situation, I think I'd make the same choice. Cancer is not something you mess around with, and if you can make a decision that drastically reduces your chance of getting it, you should definitely make that choice.

She actually has the genetics to make it a prudent decision. There is a huge upswing in preventative mastectomy though, and it isn't even close to advisable. I suspect it has more to do with middle aged women wanting a new set of tits and using this as a rationalization.

But ya. Jolie is probably off her rocker in any case.

At almost 90% I think I would do it too. Even though that is totally against what I would normally do.

I don't think getting new boobies has as much to do with it than seeing what cancer does to a person does. Most of those women probably have relatives that died of breast cancer.

I've watched someone I waste away, and it's among the worst of fates. I would do almost anything to avoid that.

Yes. Because killing yourself and having a mastectomy are in some way comparable.

Boobs aren't vital. They're easily replaced. If the most likely outcome is a cancer that can kill you, I don't see why someone shouldn't take preventative measures.

Oh, I have little doubt the new ones are going to be way better than the old ones.
