If you didn't have any debt, how much money would you need per month to sustain your current lifestyle? No student loans, no mortgage, no car loans, no lawsuits, etc. etc.
If you currently rent, you'd still need to account for rent in your monthly expense, if you own a home then you don't.

Still a lot of discretionary spending to be accounted for depending on one's lifestyle so I'm not sure what your getting at.

Are you asking me how much I spend on beer and fishing tackle?

What about health insurance and taxes because w/o those I could get by really frikken cheap, easily my highest monthly expenses by far. Do you want us to factor in monthly savings for retirement while were at it?

Other than a mortgage, I don't have debt (beyond the occasional large-balance on a CC that gets paid off at the end of the month).
So, I'd say, to continue my current lifestyle, I need roughly $18,000 per month.

Biggest place we waste money is on eating out. Second biggest is beer/wine. Though, I hate to think of that as waste since it ups quality of life so much.
Probably blowing $500 a month on that stuff, easy. I've usually got motorcycle and bicycle stuff going on, and some computer/videogame stuff. Probably a thousand bucks a month on leisure, averaged, considering the cost of buying/insuring/maintaing something like a motorcycle. The wife is a cheap date. Bookworm. Likes to take a trip once in a while. No apparent desire for outrageous housewares, like a lot of people.
Beyond mortgage, we don't really mess with debt. Getting out from under student debt a couple years back was enough of an event to happily dissuade us from using credit forever.
