i just assembled a scale model of the USS saratoga and, now that it's painted and i've put the decals on (a personal struggle through hell), i want to put a finish on it, preferably something that is waterproof and won't yellow in three months. i tested some krylon clear coat but it's made with like 90% acetone so it melts acrylic paint and plastic like alien blood melts the metal hull of a ship, so i'm kind of stuck here.

A regular clear coat is going to make everything glossy. Probably not the look you want on a model warship.
I've used this matte finish coat on a few parts. Not a model, though. But, it says that it can be used on plastic. Perhaps it's a different formula, even though it's still Krylon.

is it krylon fusion? i was reading about that stuff but half the people talking about it had really bad results, so i'm kind of looking for something a bit more guaranteed.

It's actually an acrylic coating not wax.
