Anyone cut the cord to cable/satellite service? The ONLY thing stopping me is I want HBO/HBO Go (my kids use my subscription also).

I've cut back service, but it's still pretty pricey (for what I get) and am giving Hulu+ a try, (already have Netflix and Amazon Prime) as well as just watching shows directly on the websites. Right now I can plug my Surface into my TV for web based TV shows that can't go directly through Hulu etc. Later this month (when Windows 8.1 comes out) I should be able to use the push to TV netgear box and do this wirelessly.

Anyway if it works out and I don't know why it won't I'll probably go all the way and just buy the HBO shows I like, like Game of Throne, Boardwalk Empire etc. Could buy a lot of stuff with the savings from satellite cancellation.

Not a big sports fan and our local news sucks so I'm not losing anything there.

Anywho anyone else done this and if so how did it go? None of my kids plan to ever buy cable service.

If you have the internet, you need nothing else.

yeah i never paid for cable. even when it was forced onto me by roommates i told them i wasn't going to pay for it. i'd much rather dump a quarter of the cost of a cable subscription into high speed internet.

I watch and listen to more and more entertainment over the net.. Mostly sports, and TV shows..

But I still have DirecTV... I got no complaints with them. I've had them for 12 years, their CS and product is 2nd to none..

Yep, cut the cord about a year ago... I get over the air HD channels with $50 digital bunny ears... and I get my cable sports off bootleg feeds on the internet.

Cable packages are becoming a truly silly expense

I'd be more worried about catching disc rot

I could cheerfully do it at any time...but that would probably push me to go back to casual piracy. I'm trying to not do that.

I've already got an ill-gotten, multi-terabyte collection of torrented stuff hooked up to my home theater. Kinda feel bad about that. Not enough to delete, it tho.
