Saw some interesting facts about slavery the other day. A couple were from Alltime 10s on Youtube, and the others were elsewhere.
The US only imported about 485,000 slaves from 1776 until 1865.
Brazil imported over 5 million slaves.
There are still roughly 50,000 slaves within the US.
Slavery is illegal in every country, but there are more slaves now than at any other time in history.

They use very very loose definitions for slavery. Outside of a handful of isolated criminal incidents that can only be punished and not completely eradicated, actual slavery probably only takes place in a dozen or so countries (all the ones you would expect).

chattel and not giving your workers any human rights are two different things. it's pretty gross to cross the two.

Hmmm - I said Brazil. I may have meant the Caribbean islands? I can't remember. One way or another, some place imported 100x as many slaves as the US.
