Would you do business with a company that was involved in some atrocities in the past? Lets assume the company was heavily involved in the atrocity, but for some reason didn't change its name and has been in operation ever since. However it now has a completely different product line and is under a new generation of management none of which were involved in the atrocity.

Example: Let's say you found out that XYZ Company made its money initially through helping the Nazi with the operations of concentration camps and gas chambers. The company planned the logistics of the gassing and supplied the Nazi's with gas. Throughout the years the company maintained its expertise in logistics and chemicals, but has transformed itself into an international shipping company for chemicals. Assuming they are one of the best at what they do today, and you need to ship some highly volatile chemical, would you have any qualms about utilizing this company?

Corporations are supra-governmental agencies. The people hired at the time were the ones doing the business deals, not the company name... I don't feel anything in terms of which businesses had business dealings with evil empires 60 years ago...

Yeah, the IBM business is sketchy at best. Their equipment was being used, but there really isn't any proof anyone in the US knew what it was being used for. Which IMO happens most of the time with many of these companies..

Obviously sometimes a company is directly involved, besides German there are plenty of Japanese companies too..

But IMO many times the companies are clueless, or more to the point, they may prefer to remain clueless. Is that a crime? I don't know..

This reminds me of the degussa incident in the building of the Berlin holocaust memorial. A degussa subsidiary produced the zyklon b gas used in the gas chambers in the holocaust. Degussa was then commissioned many years later to produce the anti-graffiti paint for the Berlin holocaust memorial.

Just refusing to buy anything at Walmart and nearly all fast food places satisfies my pretentious need to protest evil companies.
