Finally getting the internet hooked up. A monopoly runs my town so I am getting brutally ripped off for real poor service. $80/mth for the lowest speed (20 mb/s lol), although usage is unlimited so I am thinking of becoming a legal Torrent distributor just to punish them for being pricks.

Anyways they are coming to set it up today. My appointment is for any point between 8:30 AM and 5 PM. Seriously. I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I'm supposed to sit around all day, on a weekday, just to get the internet? f**k you Eastlink. I hope you go bankrupt and the homes of all your executives burn to the ground.

All day appointments are pretty common. We did them when I worked for AT&T. Sometimes you could get lucky and get morning or afternoon but not often. What most companies these days will do, however, is let you set up a 30minute call before where you can have the field installer call you 30 mins or so before they are to arrive.

Man I find that so ridiculous. Even a couple hour window would be acceptable to me, and would allow them some overage time.

Also 80 a month for 20mbps down and no cap isnt that bad. We used to pay 60 for dsl which was 7 down.

I get it from a business perspective. From a consumer perspective, it drives me nuts. I had to skip a day of work to be here. That lost income is enough to make me frustrated. I don't see why they couldn't just give a reasonable window. And if the customer isn't home, simply leave a note telling them to reschedule. And if the job goes on too long, that is the technicians fault, IMO. They can tell if a place is already wired, and setting up the internet is ridiculously easy and unskilled. To be honest I wish they had just sent me the stuff and I'd do it myself, since I'll actually take the time to do it properly.
