LA is 27th. Frankly, I think that's a bit high. Abita is pretty good. But, the article is spot-on when it says it's "mainstream". There are a few other good ones, but nothing notable.
One thing for MS, though. They might have the most interesting beer I've ever tasted. Lazy Magnolia Brewery makes a Southern Pecan that is . . . well . . . interesting. It really tastes like they brewed pecans into the beer. It's certainly not bad. But, I'm just not sure that pecans belong in beer. I drink it once or twice per year, and always think about the intricate tastes and feels to the beer, not that it's actually good.

The authors knowledge of Midwestern beer seems lacking. No mention of Surly in MN, Central Waters in WI, New Holland in MI or Solemn Oath in IL. Only mentioning New Glarus and Miller for Wisconsin is an insult. That said, the top 10 doesn't look bad. I think Colorado has California beat though. I haven't been out drinking in Vermont recently enough to say whether they deserve 6.

PA has some good beers.. Maybe they deserve higher than 8.. Iron City beer might hold them back though, I hate to keep picking on IC, but when I had it it was a God awful beer.

We should start a beer exchange on the forums.
