Has the Metal Gear series become so convoluted and retconned that it's lost all meaning? Was it ever actually meaningful? Really seemed thought provoking and perspective altering to me at one point. Was it just cause I was a kid and didn't realize how much of it was just silly video game shit at the time? I dunno. I'd say it really changed the way I looked at the world when I was younger, but now it just seems like a bunch of strained plot explanations and a vague "war is hell" motif.

I had to google weeaboo. What's the mirror opposite of that? The guy who created Metal Gear is whatever that's called. Japanese dude who is obsessed with western cinematic tropes. Metal Gear is oozing with references to the western film. Shit, the whole thing is pretty much Star Wars in a different setting, and the two main characters original prototypes were obvious ripoffs of Kurt Russell and Sean Connery.

i think it's self-parodying itself at this point in some parts. in a more extreme manner than it used to, which kind of ruins the series for me

Plot? I've played all the MG games up to MG4 - Guns of the Patriots. Well, all the mains ones (skipped the Gamecube and PSP versions). Yeah, I guess there was a plot. But, I never cared about it. The cutscenes were times to pee and get a drink. All I cared about was the game.
Still the same way. Don't care about the plot of a FPS. I play a lot of Destiny now. Is there a plot? Sure. I've even read the summary online. Did I pay attention to it in the game? Nope.

Yeah the stealth gameplay is pretty neat. If you set it to the hardest difficulty, you actually don't even lose by dying, it's just an automatic game over if someone spots you. On normal difficulty though, they kind of got away from that in MGS4. You could Rambo your way through the game pretty easily.
The dialogues in MGS4 were way too long, and often didn't even advance the plot in a meaningful way, but the first three games, man you missed out if you ignored the plots.
