Did anyone else watch this live? Amazing footage. My heart was in my mouth when he went into a spin.
Jumped from 24 miles up & reached speeds of over 700mph.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/video/2 ... pace-videoNASA is interested in the data gained from this to look into possibilities of astronaut escape systems in future spacecraft.

Wow. I had heard about this the other day so I already knew about it and everything, but watching the video still had me a little tensed up.

Better news than anything else we've had this month! Yup - he broke the sound barrier. By a lot!

Broke 3 of the 4 records he was going for, too. I was bummed he didn't get the record for longest freefall (that's still held by Joseph Kittinger, who did a similar jump back in the 60's), but damn, going supersonic in nothing but a spacesuit...wild stuff.

looks like he maxed out at 730 mph (terminal velocity?)
pretty cool, and im glad to see that they didnt make him say "welcome to my world - the world of red bull" right before he jumped or right after he landed...

He gets a slight bump in that cold air as well, since of course sound moves slower up there. Don't know if they were measuring against local conditions or against the mean.

I was hoping his 'shute didn't open to see the size of the crater he made. Oh well.
