My opinion - New Orleans is one of the best travel destinations in the country. Nice people, great food, plenty activities to occupy you for a week, low cost of goods, nice hotels, everything within walking distance.
Obligatory link.

I've bee to New Orleans once. I'll never go back if I can help it. Was absolutely terrible. Unless you're amused by derp tourist stuff, no reason whatsoever to go.

What kind of "derp tourist stuff"? Deep sea fishing excursion? Literary tour of the French Quarter (I hate literature, but this was cool). Eating beignets as traffic moves up and down the river? Watching factory-Ferraris racing on the country's longest and fastest road course? Getting a horse-drawn carriage ride through one of the oldest and most European parts of America?
I dunno - I live here, and that stuff is still fun to do.

Meh, matter of opinion I guess. I mean it just seems like most tourists who go there are all psyched about bourbon street and jazz spots specifically set up for tourists. I'm sure if I went back and hung out with you, you could show me some cooler spots, but what I saw was just one giant tourist trap and the novelty of drinking on the streets, beads, etc.
Unfortunately, I will never come back to get your insider tour because last time I went was in February and I almost sweat to death in shorts and a tshirt. Never subjecting myself to that again.

I like NOLA and if I return in the near future I'll take Prof up on his offer. As long as I get to pick the restaurant. Don't worry, it won't be a tourist trap, but you better bring plenty of money.
