Russia openly supports Assad's regime in Syria over the Free Syrian Army. But the Assad regime is ruled by the minority Alawite group and doesn't command the respect of the majority of the county, there's a high chance that it might lose. What replaces Assad might not be better, but there are plenty of groups who want to fight him. If Assad becomes more embattled, is there a chance that Russia will send in troops to support Assad? If they do, is this in or against their interest? Is this in or against US interests?

If guns are not outlawed, the in-laws will have guns.
