I think we would be infinitely better off if we offered zero compensation for the job.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster. Those people need to be restrained in their spending habits. Not encouraged to be even more irresponsible.

They can write off their expenses, just like a salesperson or independent contractor.
I would even be willing to give them free travel, so long as they took the least expensive means of transportation.
Maybe with some exposure to normal people, they'd stop being whores for the rich.
