I'm not a fan of the power being displayed here. This is totally reinforcing the "bully" image the US has, and that is not a good thing. We're going to start losing support in the political forum pretty quick if this shit keeps up.

After the cold war ended I really, really thought we'd stop being the world's cop but if/when we had to be we'd work to calm things and smooth things out..

I think the 2nd Iraq war will go down as one of the worst things this country's ever done.. Since then our foreign policy has been out of control, we figure we can do anything now.

That or we're way too good at it. We are at our best when we've got a respectable competitor, and at our worst when we finally prevail. Pretty much the oldest story going since the invention of agriculture.

It has to do with extradition treaties, we expect that other governments will respect our laws when it comes to harboring criminals and these governments expect the same thing from us. If we or they would start to ignore these treaties then international fugitives would have a field day pitting one country against another.
