Honestly man, I don't know how you can say that with a straight face. It strikes me as a very 90s opinion. REITs are exploding in size and profitability. They own nearly all of the apartments in Canada and the US, and are now moving into single-family homes by renting out entire suburban neighbourhoods. Apps like AirBNB have made it easy for people to generate revenue that far exceeds what they would get from a single renter. I mean even the notion that "housing as an investment" only happens in rich or desirable areas is flatly false. Surely you understand what a slumlord is, and how that model generates revenue.

I'm not sure what I'm "never going to change" here either. There is nothing even remotely unusual or radical about the policies I've suggested - and in fact you seem to have agreed with all of them. It is pretty standard stuff that was well-understood until our society forgot it was a society and let capitalism run completely amok.

Maybe the landlords should get a real f**k job like the rest of us then. Every landlord is fundamentally living off the work of others. Small landlords are usually particularly shitty, and I say this as a small shitty landlord (passively though, god forbid I ever have to deal directly with the scum of the earth that most tenants are).

The country would be better off if most housing were managed by large, heavily regulated corporations (like the basic utility that housing is).
