where is this clear consensus coming from? nothing about the vote was real or democratic and to suggest otherwise is so patently absurd it's not even worth rationally engaging.

Considering the fact that all the "international observers" that Russia is trotting out are former genocidal maniacs, insane rightwing nationalists and other people not worth the oxygen they breath, I have no doubt that this referendum was total bullshit.
Which is really too bad. I was hoping that it would be legitimate, and that Crimeans would be able to exercise their right to self-determination.
