Yes, they have lost all meaning, because people either don't follow them as they were originally intended, they support candidates who don't follow them, they criticize the other side for doing something that their ideology then allows when their party is in power, and on and on.

You can't have a discussion about party ideology and ignore the fact that people have adopted them as a cure-all to Whatever It Is You Think Causes All Problems.

Why, this country would be glorious again if it would just be run by ______________. Are you kidding? That's the whole selling point of liberal/conservative.

The question this thread asks is: what is your position on the issues--liberal/conservative.

To most people that is another way of asking: what is your position on the issue? Right or wrong?

Like I said, this isn't going to make sense for you until you learn how to separate an understanding of ideology from the actions politicians and political parties.

This isn't a partisan debate Indy, as tough as that may be for you. We're discussing a political philosophy and there are no points to be scored for or against any politicians or parties.
