The main difference these days is that nobody wants to offend the Chinese, heck they even photoshopped them out of that Red Dawn remake so as not to piss them off lol. The Russians however, are poor and so we can afford to beat on them...

Nah I completely disagree there will be less. The Qatar world cup has already generated controversy just by being awarded the tournament particularly here with it being our national sport. It's lost the headlines recently as it's so far away. But their treatment of gay people had already been brought up as an issue, despite the world cup being 8 years away. The main issues with Sochi have only been brought up relatively recently.
