i think it was not false flag with iran and the tankers.

i also think they very clearly wanted to find a target near their airspace that was unmanned so they could shoot it down.

all of this is because they WANT a crisis. they are playing with fire but it's their only way out of the situation. they need to bring the world to the brink of war in order to help their economy which trump cut the last life line to two months ago when he got rid of the waivers. and the way they are doing that is to get all of the US' friends to circle around and say that we cannot have a disruption like this to the world oil supply it will cripple economies. and it's also why no lives have been lost. they are sending messages, they are making threats, but they have yet to actually do anything more than destroy property

trump's idiotic tweets and whatnot is so he can save face and the iranians can save face... the only reason he pulled out of the iran deal was really it was Obama's deal. he certianly has MBZ and MBS whispering in his ear about it which doesn't help but if he made the deal to begin with, it would still be there. so we're at a precipice, and either we go to war, or we end up creating another deal that's basically the same as the last deal but this one will be "the best deal" and this will deescalate

The vacuum the US would leave if we totally disengaged from the region would invite India/China. Indian/Chinese ships patrolling/controlling the strait of hormuz much less the Persian Gulf would reduce our power in the future when dealing with India/China because we still rely on oil as an internationally traded commodity. It would also reduce our power in the region and potentially push them from using the dollar as the primary denomination in trading oil (basket of currencies, etc). Decoupling from China is one thing, decoupling the US market for oil from the rest of the world so that we can simply feed our own needs? I don't think that will go smoothly. It's a huge political gamble for any administration and asking this one to do so successfully is....ballsy.

So while we might agree with the assertion that we shouldn't care about what happens over there the overall strategy and reality necessitate a different course of action.
