Yeah basically fstar. Depending on how you look at it, it's sort of a good thing that he has broken this cycle of having to be 100% ideologically pure on whatever Rush Limbaugh seems to be the "most" conservative positions. Limbaugh and his ilk have been absolutely trashing Trump to no avail. But his supporters support whatever he's for and not the other way around. If the establishment had come down on him hard at the outset they probably could have crushed him but it's too late now.

I don't care about any of that. The reality is that the mandate has been a major political point to the republican party. Him and other candidates have consistently called it a job killer, and that they would repeal Obamacare once in office. Trump literally said that last night in the debate. But on Wednesday, he posted his healthcare plan and was literally quoted saying he doesn't mind the mandate so people don't die on the street. So either hes a liar, or he doesn't know what position he has. You can't be against Obamacare and like the mandate, it's really the biggest political part of the entire ACA.

Perhaps I'm looking at politics all wrong.

If Sanders wins, he's like Jesus, so I can just ask forgiveness.
If Hillary wins, she hates me because I'm a white male (who doesn't have enough money to heavily fund her campaign), so it really doesn't matter what I do.
If Trump wins, he will really only care about those that are on his side.

All hail Trump! May his benevolence reign for eternity.

Even in the debate last night he bashed Ted Cruz for supporting Bush for picking Justice Roberts and even said he screwed us. How can he be for the mandate, be against Obamacare, and bash the person who helped pick the Justice that upheld the mandate?

Because it's not the mandate that he opposes. Indeed he will have a mandate of his own. But Obamacare's mandate is awful, and Trump's mandate will be great. See the difference?

Fstar is right: if you like the mandate but don't like Obamacare you're just finding superficial details to quibble over. The mandate is the essence of the law.
