What sort of response are we talking about? Because there is likely no American who could get elected who would go to war over this. It just doesn't make any sense from a strategic perspective. There is literally nothing to be gained and much to lose.
I also find the idea that Obama has weakened the American position to be kind of funny. As far as I can tell, other than perhaps talking too much, Obama has done a pretty stellar job.
Calm down Murica. This isn't Russian tanks rolling into Berlin.
