I don't know about any of that, but I do know that I prefer sending local representatives to Ottawa over being given a choice between four or five candidates who rarely make it to my neck of the woods. I also think that as a practical matter, candidates not having to travel the country convincing everyone to vote for them makes for faster, cheaper elections. An election is announced, and six weeks later it's over. Politicians in the US in particular never seem to stop campaigning. Very time consuming, very expensive.
