You should see what the papers around the world are saying about us. We now literally ARE the laughingstock of the world.

I wonder if people in say, Egypt are looking at this and saying "F*** 'democracy.' Bring back the generals if this is where that ends up!"

Ain't that something? It shows just more of the cray cray: by trying to slash the debt right now they're actually going to drive it UP.

A certain columnist/economist has been pointing this out forever, just as he pointed out that "austerity" was exactly the wrong solution which it exactly turned out to be.

And yet people are STILL pushing that, Paul Ryan-style.

Because Paul Ryan is a "numbers" guy--whose numbers have never added up.

yes, they are laughing. if you're so interested you can read the dozens of international newspapers who have commented on, and mocked, the government shutdown.

Not that it matters.

But on a serious note, this is why I prefer the parliamentarian system we have. The Obamacare vote would have been a vote of confidence. Had it failed, Obama would be forced to resign, and a new government formed. But if it succeeded, as Obamacare did, the other parties would have no choice but to fall in line.
