Elegant nonsense. Human kind is made up of countless perspectives, a large cross section of which will find it perfectly reasonable that this world is many levels of hellishly inhumane and corrupt, or harbors misc terrifying realities. A different cross-section is people who can't comprehend, don't want to know, and will be the first to parish when fate takes a turn into a bad neighborhood.

Such is the cycle of history. It's not dramatic.
