Here is what passed during the first two years of Obama's first term:
ARRA
Credit CARD act of 2009
Dodd Frank and CFPB
Extended Bush Tax cuts
ACA
Auto bailout
I do not understand how people overlook this. Yes, Obama was then constrained by the GOP after the 2010 Wipeout. Yes, maybe he should've been more forceful after or attempted to lever the bully pulpit more effectively. But he did so f**k much in two years and all Trump has to show for it is an incredibly asinine tax cut bill. What the Obama administration did in those two years laid the groundwork for the US today. And yet we look back with disappointment now because it didn't solve the issue? I'm not even mentioning foreign policy under Obama because once you tack that on what has Trump really accomplished?
Bernie can make healthcare for all the hill to die on - but if he doesn't have the Senate what difference does it make? And more to my point - what's to stop the next GOP president and/or Congress from taking it away? Again - money in politics is the issue of this century. We are to the point that corruption has been made legal - nevermind the mere appearance of impropriety. What we now call changing "norms."
And yet here our inclination is to ascribe to Bernie the fortitude that we now think Obama lacked?
They were different times demanding a different outcome. The GOP spent six years driving populist rage and gave us a populist demagogue. If we try the same thing here (Bernie is by far a much better human being) we're just doomed to repeat the same loop. I need to hear Bernie repeatedly and poignantly proclaim that his first day will see the passage of legislation similar to HR1 passed by the current house. And once he's POTUS he better work hard to get that in the Constitution.
But of course I'm a realist/pessimist and so I have my doubts.
