....I think it's a bit exaggerated. I was down there earlier this summer and I didn't see any shit whatsoever, not even in the Castro or along Mission where it's supposed to be so extreme. Not saying it didn't happen...but people talk like its a shitpocalypse....the real issue is that there is zero tolerance for any human shit ever. Which is as it should be.

When you attract countless thousands of addicts and homeless to your city, the nasty comes with them. San Francisco has generous programs and a moderate climate.

i agree san diego would be the most moderate of moderate places to be at but here in the midwest we have wild temperture swings throughout the year which tend to keep the homeless away. and those who are out there our local news goes and finds out several are just doing it as a "job" and going back to their car and their houses after they put in a shift so hardly anyone gives them anything. because giving a mouse a cookie and they're gonna want some milk. that's why there's a bunch of homeless in san fran. it's NOT that it's a sanctuary city. it's NOT because of illegal immigration. these are homeless americans.

Ehhhh...factor in wind chill and it gets pretty cold in SF. Ever been to Ocean Beach? Imagine being homeless there (even though the police/park rangers patrol around all night like friggin nazis).

Cold is easy: Add layers. Heat though, that's just awful. No escape without somewhere to plug in an AC.

But what we're actually talking about here is the bleeding heart culture of the place that makes it so liveable for the homeless. When you read about it...it's never a refrain of "Why can't they find a Starbucks or something and shit there?" it's always "How are we failing these people that they would rather shit on the sidewalk than find said Starbucks? What can we do to help them shit at point A as opposed to B, and how much should we punish ourselves for not putting a staffed public restroom on every corner?"

We have the same problems in my area. Same is true in Seattle. West Coast cities are destinations. Only place worse is NYC.
