Thanks to The Dude for actually presenting an argument for why the sites should be barricaded and not just parroting the same talking point ad nauseous.

Anyway if there are serious security concerns and they can't staff personnel because of the shutdown that would be a legitimate reason to barricade the things, at least it would have seemed. Now that Republicans are constantly sending protestors out to try to tear the barriers down I assume we're actually staffing MORE security than usual at those sites.

Now that's freaking irony x2--because the TPM is acting like animals and creating disturbances at these places we now need MORE security.

Serious security concerns... but they were unstaffed at nights and still open to the public before the shut down? It is my understanding that the NPS was there mostly to educate people about the memorials. I wonder why they need more guards when the memorial is shut down than when it is full of people. Government agencies just love citing security concerns nowadays. Regardless, I don't blame NPS for doing their job. The jackasses getting in their faces for doing their job without pay (yet) certainly don't have my support.

My understanding was they were staffed, especially at night, to protect against vandalism. They are not more staffed today than before shutdown, that sounds like a dumb lie.

Plus, the barricades were put up before the shutdown went into effect, so the cost was zero.

At this point, it's so hard to separate fact from spin. Almost literally, everything is spun by the time we hear it.

Which is why I hate DC politics.

Here's the one thing that nobody can "spin": how is torching the country's credit and sending the in-recession economy into another death spiral going to solve... Obamacare?

That's what was so insane about all this in the first place: because you don't like one law, you're going to take down the entire country? And everybody with it?
