Taxes on online shopping will HELP small business.

the issue of small business vs amazon exist regardless of the tax policy. Amazon wants it because the places it wants to be are taxing them anyway (Cali, texas, etc) so they figure they might as well get ebay taxed too.

Also, fwiw, this law isn't a new tax. Right now, you're legally obligated to pay sales taxes on the purchases you make in another state but you have to report them. By not, you're breaking the law. This simply forces businesses to do what you were doing all these years (and by doing I mean not doing).

I still don't see how this hurts small businesses in general. Just the online ones. Most small businesses are mom and pop for no interstate traffic. And most are under $1 mil in revenues that are mom and pop.

In general I'd be concerned if I were small business without an online presence. Mobile computing is the future and staying out of it significantly diminishes your current and future competitiveness, interstate or not. But strictly speaking, yes I see it as a large ding against smaller online retailers (Than the large brethren of Amazon, walmart, etc).

Wait till the giant online retailers have a we'll pay the tax event. They can afford to do that. Small businesses cannot.
