I'm not even surprised by this crap any more. It's just the nanny state slowly evolving into an omnipresent bureaucracy controlling ever-more quarters of American life in the name of building some weird utopia.

Completely agree. Focus on those people who have a problem with abuse. There is always going to be something for people to abuse.

You guys ever see Ken Burns'
Prohibition? It's amazing to watch this stuff going down and then failing miserably way back then and not be wondering: so this not like the war on drugs how again?
Meanwhile, we keep pot illegal yet the great irony is that prescription drug--that would be LEGAL drugs--abuse is exploding in this country.
You can't overdose on weed.
But here we see Bloomie taking that same ass-backward approach, deciding he's going to take the scrips out of the hands of, um, doctors because of course in these instances "cutting off the supply" has been wildly successful.

I wouldn't mind the policy so much if the health care in our country allowed the poor better access to prescription drugs when needed.
From what I read, it is not a ban on pain killers. It's a ban on giving away lots of pain killers.
If you go to the ER and need vicodin, you will still get 3 days worth. If you want more, you need to have the doc write a prescription and go to the pharmacy and pay for it. It exempts people who are suffering or have stuff like cancer.
this type of thing can be administered correctly. NY won't be the first place to do it in the US.

I guess he didnt go over board with the "stop and frisk" program.
Tyrants to power is just a simple case of tropism, and in the current climate of government being ungoverned this is what you will get every single time. Its biological fact.

If I was living in NY, Bloomberg would scare the hell out of me.

bloomberg isn't scary. he limited free opiates and banned large soda. if that scares you you're easily frightened.

So the drugs aren't limited in the ER, it's just the prescription written upon discharge?
Because I was getting ready to go off..lol. Last Saturday, my mother was admitted in the most severe pain. They ended up giving her Fentynal (sp). It was her appendix and they removed it, but that first 12 hours was horrible and I can't imagine if she wasn't given this strong drug while diagnosing, then prep for surgery.
FYI, Indiana, the "red state," has some of the strictest laws in general from what I"m discovering. To get my driver's license, I had to give 2000 pieces of info, and take a picture in which can't have glasses, hair can't touch the eyebrows, etc. The rules for this pic are stringent. Then you get a temporary paper while they mail the ID to you. Then, I did get a prescription for my mother for Hydrocodone, and they require a driver's license for who is picking it up. They need to record the DL Id. Passport won't do, apparently (I guess it has to be an Indiana ID). I was like...whoa.

NY is the crappiest state in the union, needs to be firebombed.
