meh... where another guy puts his pecker is so not interesting. If it helps this guy's mind and makes his quality of life less stressful then good for him.

It's awesome... This is another serious broadside to the states rights argument about gay marriage. This might have been the political tipping point not just to get DOMA repealed, but get gay marriage federally protected

Burke didn't come out in the press, though, it was only his teammates knew IIRC. This is different.

Well, it's always a slow news day for some reporter. It did become known in an article printed in 1982, after his career.

But fair enough. Jason will be much bigger news in this day and age. So many things are declared sensational, viral or something along those lines.

I bet he would rather just get on with his life than be a center of attention. But it is his life, so more power to him. May he achieve his goals.

It's news because athletes have recently come out and say they won't play with a gay player (mostly NFL but still).

It also matters for people who look up to athletes (rightly or wrongly) and are gay but afraid to come out. This stuff does matter.

I'd also point out that the media's portrayal of gay people over the past decade has almost certainly contributed to the massive sea change on the view of gay people. That they are so much a part of daily life (ala shows like Modern Family) that people have changed their views. This is probably the 2nd to last stumbling block, the last one being a major gay male politician.

No one's saying it doesn't matter, but saying it shouldn't.
