I have to admit, I'm becoming a little uncomfortable at the increased presence of the military in everyday life in this country. I was watching the Great North Run this morning and soldiers were lining the finishing line. Why?

Endless welcoming home parades, the 'heroification of the armed forces, and perhaps the most uncomfortable; Soldiers carrying the Olympic flag at the opening ceremony.
I don't want to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I can't help think this increased militarisation could have a sinister element to it. Softening up the public for potential marshal law in the future?

Standard jingoism, probably due to poor economic conditions imho.

I can't exactly reveal how I know this, so let me put it in a coy, but I hope understandable manner:

We aren't hiring any more police constables any-time soon (well kinda, its complicated).

Whereas, pretty soon we won't have any more foreign wars to fight. yet in the ones we have, training for public order has been key.


Its not a sinister plan to convert us into 19th century Prussia, its a simple issue of funding and manpower.

It's kind of sinister.

Why is it sinister?

Because it is surrounding the population with soldiers. I guess you guys don't have an equivalent to our posse comitatus act?
