Three-Year-Old Boy Dies After Accidentally Shooting Self

AUSTIN, Texas, July 6 (Reuters) - A 3-year-old Texas boy who shot himself at a Houston-area home over the weekend died on Monday from the wound, officials said.

The boy's grandparents were babysitting him and had put him down for a nap. They later heard a gunshot and found the boy had shot himself, police said.

There is no way this should be dismissed as just an accident. These people are (through their stupidity) directly responsible for this child's death. They can kiss or hug their sweet 2nd amendment tonight. They said they need firearms to protect themselves from outsiders. Unfortunately in a lot of cases, it's the people inside the home getting hurt and killed by the firearms.

Negligent morons. I do not understand the risk assessment some people go through when they decide it's safer to have a loaded gun where a small child has access to it vs taking your chances on having a robber/murder/rapist break into your home.

For every kid who gets his hands on a loaded gun and kills itself, probably 100 more poison themselves with household chemicals or zap themselves chewing on a power cord or something. Others drown in the lake while the parents sit around the fire drinking light beer. Its all over the news dozens of times each summer. Hell...we've recently had case after case of parents getting off pretty much scott free after locking their kids in hot cars and roasting them to death.

How do we decide which examples of negligence are "Prison Bad" and which cases aren't?
