New York times has become way too paranoid. Really I can't imagine even in my worst nightmares that Russia may damage those underwater cables one day. That will put the world into chaos. I'm sure Russians don't really want it. We actually need to cooperate with Russians instead of waging a new cold war. Russia is surely not so bad country. The USSR is no more and it will probably never come back.

It's amazing that we made it through the Cold War without Russia causing a nuclear holocaust (barely) only to have them re-emerge under Putin as a repellent state actor, doing everything from helping shoot down civilian airliners (without any consequences) to this to all sorts of bad behavior.

And now you've got a whole new generation there gorging themselves on nationalism and the idea that the U.S. is their main enemy. WTF?

I guess we'll never not have looming enemies on such a scale. Sigh.

Russia's an "enemy" in the sense that the pigeons I sometimes have to shoo out of the way while I'm walking are an "enemy". It's an annoyance but once I turn to my attention to it I barely have to break stride.
