So. Alex Jones just got simultaneously shitcanned by Youtube, Apple, Spotify, and Facebook...banned from all these platforms. (Which is f**k delicious , but I digress.)



Issue is that we have an entire generation that grew up with social media etc. being the central part of how they relate to the rest of the human race, and they honestly seem to view posting their bullshit on other people's private business platforms as "free speech". The usual suspects are currently raging about Alex Jones having his "freedom of speech" stripped, of him being censored, etc etc. This has always been a common moderation gripe on PCF sites as well...people seem to think they have free speech here, tragically enough.

At what point, as we continue to evolve towards online platforms as the central hub of all discourse, does it actually become a free speech issue? At what point does a platform like Facebook become so all-encompassing that we have to extend legal protections of speech and expression to it? Or will there need to be established some sort of public platform that truly is a free speech zone, and how would that be managed? Laws governing hate speech, threats, illegal activity, etc etc would still need to be enforced.

It isn't a freedom of speech matter, but it does touch on the core of internet utility. We shouldn't encourage these massive and influential conglomerates to delete content that is unpopular. Illegal, sure, but not unpopular. Instead of being insufferable flower of paradise, users should be expected to regulate their own media consumption. There is literally nothing preventing people from hiding Alex Jones videos, or not commenting on their stuff.

Unfortunately, the thing about insufferable flower of paradise is that they are many, and as the internet becomes more commercialized, numbers always win.

At this point, my hope for the internet lies in parallel networks and small communities like this one. Places that are not ruled by the whims of millions of perpetually offended dipshits on both sides. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, etc... they are essentially gated communities at this point. Best thing those who want a free internet can do is carve out our own private niches.

what will happen

day 1: account registration, people thinking about how great it is to be able to talk with their countrymen and congressmen and all that
day 1+x, where x is any number of the amount of days the site is operating: vote brigading and spamming

in no way can you take off moderation. we all know what happens. the way such people "win" debates like alex jones is to just tire you out from having to respond to absolute shit that you can't beleive anyone listens to and you ignore them. they start talking about lizard people and your eyes roll back and you just think to yourself "we outta leave this world behind" but you don't do it. you just go somewhere else. where is that? a moderated place where that shit is clamped down on

we have alternative theories because at some point we were spammed with this nonsense. now it's not so much but it's still nonsense. the snowflakes can't stand having their opinions pushed aside so as to stop them from throwing complete fits that end up with spamming the site with new handles and whatnot, it's moved to alt theories if needed. but at a public sphere place? it would basically be like all the nation's homeless with signs, only the signs are 50% racial epithets and the rest is other forms of trolling. one side would wear the other out so they would seek another home

sometimes the black mirror world of china and how they handle it does have some appeal. but that is not the way. i sincerly hope that after the boomers die off the rest of us who understand that the internet is full of lies will be able to handle things better. i mean, there will always be some insanity (like Q, which is so bad of a troll it's apparently a troll on boomers? not really sure about that one) but there is hope... some.

Is spreading known lies protected by the 1st amendment?? If so,the wild ride has just started.
