The incestuous conservative donor issue does seem to be amazingly close to the surface this time around. I don't really have faith that it could be truly exposed even if it was right out in the open.
I would contend that there's a third level of brutal issues facing the republican party... and that involves the fact that after all the years of asserting that the republicans are always more reliable and faithful to their party than democrats are.. that their base is so much more consolidated... it's the absolute opposite. And it's opposite because the glue that binds conservatives together is lies from special interests. Lies that the average republican citizen would shoot someone over if they found out it was true.
If the republican party truly dives into a civil war... they will usher in the first age of multi-party rule that the US has ever seen. Republican voters have the ability to completely disenfranchise. Much more effectively than Democrats.

I would admire the republican party more if they would stick to their roots and not change. If XYZ is what they stand for, and they lose an election, then XYZ is what they need to run on next time. Changing with the direction of the wind makes you look like you're pandering. That looks slimy. Voters will much more appreciate a party that sticks to its roots no matter what than one that changes and panders for votes.
