The requirement of a supporting link is going to be around for a good, long time. We don't require it when its for something that doesn't really have a supporting link, but most of the discussions brought up here are due to something in the news or something going on and can easily have a link.
We're not interested in having a hundred threads starting off with "I think Obama sucks. Discuss."

What is stopping me from making a post that does include a link, while simply writing, "This sucks...discuss." ?
