No automatic subscription?

I'm used to having the option of getting notified by email whenever a thread I've posted in has a new post. Is there any way to do that, or do I have to do a manual subscribe every time?

vBulletin defaults to what you want, phpBB defaults this way. i can look into adding a user setting to set default to reply but what i've found so far by looking is how to set it on for everyone as default, and that's a lot of email spam and i don't think would be desirable
in the meantime under each forum (for example, "Feedback and Help") you can see at the bottom of the page a link that says "Subscribe forum" which will notify you of all posts in a given forum, but that would include everything, including something you didn't reply to

Okay, thank you.
I miss getting notifications. It's like a trail of bread crumbs back to the mother ship.

There is a "subscribe topic" option at the bottom of the page on a topic. Or at least there should be! I see one =P
There's also an option in the UCP to be automatically notified when replied to. I'll be honest in that I've never used it so feel free to give that a shot as well.
