The problem with chat rooms is that they take up a lot of processing power usually, have security issues, and most are not updated often and are janky to get working. I was looking at possibly doing a shout box, which while not exactly like chat, is a chat feature.
The other option would be paying for an actual chat room client through a company. I'd have to look into it a bit further.
For now, though, we want to make sure the site is stable as it is now before throwing a chatroom on the server. That way, if problems crap up suddenly after chatroom goes live, we know where to look for problems. So its something we would like to add in the near future.
