i'm really confused about this rule. i've made several threads now with no links yet they were substantive posts. would those be locked?

likewise, less lengthy OPs but ones that still spark a lively discussion are sometimes locked.


i don't understand the "no link" rule. is it absolute or up to mod discretion?

and if it's absolute....why? there can be very meaningful topics and discussions that aren't predicated on some crappy CNN link.

Technically all threads without links could be locked. But the mods make a judgement call based on the perceived intent of the OP and the likely direction of the discussion.
