The lifetime of Charles II. My interest was fairly caught when I read an account of the visit made by the 15 year old Charles to Lucy Walter in Wales when I was around 15 myself.
He simply took himself off, travelling alone and incognito without a penny in his pocket, yet somehow he arrived ( offering to fight the ferryman if he'd take him across the River Dee ) using just his charm and his wits to get him there.
Those two attributes plus his exuberance and lust for life and the ladies reached across the centuries to me and I was soon hooked on him good and proper.
He wasn't particularly honourable in matters of Kingship, perhaps, but he meant harm to no one.

Half of the US's (and friends) 'global security' interventions are for the benefit of themselves as opposed to benefiting anyone else or keeping peace. And Latin America LOL. US drug policy has almost single handedly destroyed it.
