Should we have attacked China head on in the Korean War?

USSR had the bomb, and planes to deliver them.. Maybe not to the US, but they could have retaliated against Europe, or Japan, and of course S. Korea..

Besides being our allies all 3 areas had 100,000's of American troops and personnel.

Truman was right.

The Russians were not suicidal, they would not fight a distant war to support a non-ally and risk annihilation from American atomic bombs- same with China- Mao was just barely in power at that time and a US attack would have tipped the balance and he would have lost his hold on his own people. Simple as that.

If we outright won the Korean war, and defeated Mao we would have had a FIRM foothold in Asia.. Right in the USSR's backyard.. Add that onto the fact we already had a firm foothold in the USSR's front-yard in Europe.. No way Stalin would have let us use the bomb and not retaliate..

Whatever, it still wasn't worth the chance of WWIII breaking out.. 55 million people had died 5 years earlier in WWII.. Very few people wanted to risk 10's of millions of more dying. Truman and the Western Allies had no s stomach for another large scale war.. Can't blame them.

Nobody wins a nuke war, we all loose. America and Russia understood that. Today's two bit tyrants (also members of club nuke) seem to excell in dumbassery though.

Stalin was mobilizing the whole time he had a non-aggression pac with Hitler.

Hitler attacked to prevent Stalin from building up too much of an army.
